Personalized gifts for newborns

When a baby arrives, a lot comes at once. Bodysuits in three sizes, little socks, cuddly toys. Almost always far too many socks, by the way. Six months later, most of it is too small or has disappeared.

What stays are the pieces with the name on them. A knitted blanket moves from the stroller to the crib, later to the sofa and eventually into the box of memories. A hand-knitted sweater keeps turning up in photos for years.

The three pieces in this collection cover different moments.

If you don't know the size or the parents' taste, the knitted blanket made of 100% cotton is the safest choice. It fits from day one. With the sweater you have to choose a size, but it's worn for longer. The teddy backpack only comes into play at one to two years old, and that's exactly what makes it the more unusual gift.

We knit every color with every name. The knitted blanket comes in beige, pink, cream, khaki green, baby blue, brown, mint green, dusty pink and gray. The sweaters add navy, dark green, white and light gray.

An observation from our own orders over the last four months that surprises many people: the classic color split by gender hardly plays a role. Pink tops the list, followed by beige and cream, together around 60 percent of all blankets ordered. Baby blue comes fifth, behind khaki green. So if you're unsure, a neutral shade isn't a fallback, it's what most parents choose anyway.

For twins, we recommend two blankets in different colors with their names. It costs the same as two of the same piece, but feels like two gifts instead of a duplicate.

A birth is the most common occasion, but not the only one. White and beige work well for a christening because they look calm in photos. You'll find both shades among the sweaters.

For a first birthday, the sweater is usually the better choice. At that age the size is easy to estimate, and a piece of clothing is simply seen more in everyday life. And the teddy backpack is made for the first day at daycare: lunch box, spare clothes and usually the favorite cuddly toy, too.

We knit to order, never for stock. That's the reason for the delivery time of three to four weeks, and it's also why you can freely choose the color and name. We don't have ready-made versions.

What we can't do in return: exchanges or returns. A piece with a knitted-in name can't be passed on. That's why this page explains in such detail what to check before you order. Better to spend one more minute on the spelling than to get a shock afterwards.
